About This Scholarship

Farmers & Merchants State Bank (F&M) has been serving rural communities since 1908. The intention of the F&M General Scholarship Program is to support local students who are working toward careers that have a high likelihood of enhancing rural communities and life.

F&M General Scholarships are available to high school seniors (including home-schooled students) pursuing a secondary education in a two-year technical/community college or a four-year college/university. Only high school seniors who reside in the Pierz, Eden Valley-Watkins, or Sauk Rapids School Districts are eligible. Homeschooled students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

High School Senior
Must live in the Pierz, Eden Valley-Watkins, or Sauk Rapids School Districts
Planning to attend/pursue post-secondary education at a two- or four-year college, full-time (typically 12-16 credits)
Preference will be given to students whose planned course of study is in agriculture, rural development, natural sciences, animal science, environmental/sustainability, rural medicine/healthcare or a related field.
Children of Farmers & Merchants Bank employees are NOT eligible.

Application General Questions
Essay: Should be approximately 2 pages in length and be sure to check for correct punctuation, spelling and paragraph layout. Topic – “What have you learned from participating in school, community and work activities? How have you applied these skills to your life?”
List of Activities for: 1) Community Service, Community and Church Activities, Volunteer Experiences 2) Extracurricular School Activities i.e. school activities that are not graded; and 3) Work Experience, include years involved and areas of leadership/participation
Electronic Transcript:
- High School Students: You must enter your guidance officer’s email address into the application at least 5 days prior to the deadline. This will allow your guidance officer to add your transcript to the application prior to the deadline.

Dates to remember

May: Recipients will be notified via email in early May.
June 15: Recipients must sign their scholarship agreement and provide college information. CommunityGiving will verify that you are enrolled as a full-time student at the college.(Full-time enrollment is typically 12-16 credits)
June: Inform your college that you have received the scholarship.
September 1: Generally, full payment will arrive at your college unless otherwise notified.
