Dollars raised total more than $71,000

Willmar, Minn. – The Willmar Area Women’s Fund (WAWF), an initiative of the Willmar Area Community Foundation (WACF), announces it has exceeded its fundraising goal to help support prevention and intervention activities aimed at youth homelessness and human trafficking efforts in Kandiyohi County.

Through generous community donations and the efforts of 39 campaigners, the Fund exceeded its fundraising goal of $50,000 and raised a total of $71,384. This annual campaign began on June 11, 2018, and the final total was revealed at the Caring for Women Campaign Luncheon on September 27, 2018.

The Willmar Area Women’s Fund raises funds that fuel the work of their partner organizations: Safe Avenues, Lutheran Social Services and the Kandiyohi County Human Trafficking Task Force. These organizations work to stop trafficking, assist victims and prevent the occurrence of trafficking locally. The goal of the Women’s Fund is to raise funds, broaden awareness and fuel the direct work of our partner organizations so they can continue to make an even bigger impact on human trafficking in Kandiyohi County.

“With the generous community donations for our campaign the Willmar Area Women’s Fund is able to complete our financial commitments to Safe Avenues, LSS and the Kandiyohi County Human Trafficking Task Force Coordinator to increase awareness of and prevent trafficking. In addition, we are excited to announce that with campaign dollars, we are granting Safe Avenues dollars for an additional Safe Dates Curriculum presenter and educator to provide healthy relationship awareness for children in classrooms across the county,” states WAWF Chair, Jodi Wambeke.
