Virginia, MN – The Virginia Community Foundation, with partners City of Virginia and Revive Virginia, are excited to announce that plans for a new community splash pad on the west side of Silver Lake are moving forward.
To support this project, the Virginia Splash Pad Fund has been established at the Virginia Community Foundation. Community members, businesses, and organizations interested in making a gift toward the splash pad are invited to contribute and help bring this exciting new resource to life.
The splash pad is part of a broader vision to enhance the Silver Lake area, connecting families to nearby trails, parks, and civic amenities—all without the need for a vehicle. This approach supports equity, sustainability, and the City’s commitment to expanding inclusive public spaces. The splash pad will provide a free, safe, and accessible recreational space for residents of all ages—particularly children, seniors, and families from low-income neighborhoods. Located in an Environmental Justice (EJ) area, the project will serve as a critical public cooling space during extreme heat events, directly addressing the growing impacts of climate change while promoting health, wellness, and community connection.
“The splash pad will not only create a fun gathering place for our community, but it will also play an important role in climate resilience and equitable access to recreation,” said Maija Biondich, Executive Director of the Virginia Community Foundation. “This project reflects years of collaboration and demonstrates how our community can come together to create a lasting impact.”
