Scholarships Awarded to 3 Local Students from Garrison Bay Lake Area Lions and BLACF

Brainerd, Minn. – The Garrison Bay Lake Area Lions Club, in fund partnership with the Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation (BLACF), are pleased to announce that three students from the region received academic scholarships for the 2023-2024 school year.

This scholarship awards three locals from the region with $1,000 with the intent to provide students with funding to encourage and support their pursuit of a higher education. The criteria of these scholarships focused on financial need, community service and extra-curricular activities, all three candidates exemplified a great level of community service and active involvement in their communities.

“The academic success of our area students is immensely important to how we position ourselves as a regional leader. Scholarships not only provide financial support but also convey a message to students from our donors that says ‘We support you and we want you to succeed’” says Terri Foster, Executive Director to the BLACF.

Scholarship recipients for the 2023-2024 school year are:

  • Abby Biniek, Onamia, MN
  • Malina Schiller, Brainerd, MN
  • Hannah Slette, Aitkin, MN

BLACF attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of supporting your favorite charities and causes. BLACF was founded in 1998 and celebrating their 25th anniversary and is excited for not only the growth in fund assets that the foundation hosts – over $18.5 million, but even more proud of the $8.5 million in grant funding provided to nonprofit organizations from BLACF and in-partnership with its fundholders and donors.  Those dollars are truly transforming lives and changing our communities!
