Local Foundation Now Accepting Grant Applications for Difference Maker Grants

Grant Applications Due by June 30th

Alexandria, Minn. – The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) announced today that their “Difference Maker” grant round is now accepting applications for programs that serve people in Douglas County. The AACF seeks to make significant grants that will be the “Difference Maker” in bringing about lasting, positive change in the Alexandria area community.  Grant application deadline is June 30th.

Eligible organizations are 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, schools or governmental entities and it must serve the residents of Douglas County.  For more information about the grant round, visit www.communitygiving.org/grants. The AACF has awarded over $271,000 in Difference Maker grants in the last six years.

In 2017 the AACF awarded three grants totaling $38,000.  The descriptions of last year’s projects are below:

  • $11,000 – Alexandria Technical and Community College to support a nursing simulation learning center (NSLC).  The NSLC will provide simulated real-life training for nursing students and community health professionals.
  • $11,000 – Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County to support the Aging in Place Program.  The Aging in Place program focuses on making safety improvements, mobility modifications and weatherization enhancements for seniors.
  • $11,000 – Douglas County Outreach Food Shelf to improve accessibility to the entrance of their location so that all clients will be able to access their services.
  • $5,000 – Someplace Safe for emergency financial assistance for crime victims including housing, transportation, food and medical needs.
