Funds Benefit Four Community Programs
New London & Spicer, MN – The New London-Spicer Area Fund of the Willmar Area Community Foundation (WACF) announced today it has awarded its first grants totaling $10,000 to benefit four organizations serving northern Kandiyohi County.
The Willmar Area Community Foundation established the New London-Spicer Area Fund (NLSAF) in 2014 with an anonymous charitable trust gift of $200,000 to be paid out over a seven-year period. The fund has since grown with gifts from local citizens interested in support this important community resource.
“This first round of grants was a wonderful experience for our volunteer Advisory Committee members,” said Clark Vollan, chair of the Advisory Committee for the NLSAF. “It provided us with the opportunity to learn more about four excellent projects. Along with the fund co-chair Bill Taunton, I wish to thank all the committee members for their involvement this past year and their commitments to making these grant investments into our communities.”
The four grants include:
- $4,000 to the City of Spicer Beach Street Park Project for reconstruction of the Beach Street tennis courts, basketball court and playground equipment.
- $2,500 to the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines to assist with needed improvements to the sleeping cabins at Camp Sanderson on Nest Lake.
- $2,500 to New London/Spicer Schools Prairie Woods Media Center to develop a Creation Station for elementary students to access unique learning opportunities in creative-based software.
- $1,000 to Let’s Go Fishing headquarters in Spicer for software to strengthen its capacity in serving its target populations locally and statewide.
Donations to New London-Spicer Area Fund are encouraged. “We are always happy to speak with those considering making a gift regardless of the size or type they have in mind,” said Sara Carlson, WACF Executive Director. “The Fund gives donors a new and professionally managed vehicle, with a broad range of giving options, for supporting work in the communities they call home.” Learn more about this Fund and making a gift online at CommunityGiving.org/Willmar.
