Four Programs Receive Funding
Alexandria, Minn. – The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) announced today that $58,500 has been awarded to local programs through their two most recent grant rounds. The Alexandria Area “Difference Maker” grant round awarded $45,000 to two organizations. The Ruth McDonald grant round awarded $13,500 to two organizations.
The Alexandria Area “Difference Maker” grant round seeks to support community initiatives that will bring about positive change for the community. Recipients of the “Difference Maker” grants were as followed:
- $30,000 to support the labor and materials to construct the new “Launch Pad”, a two unit, twin home that will be available to homeless families during a period of time that they search for employment and affordable housing through the Alexandria Housing & Redevelopment Authority.
- $15,000 to support campus maintenance and improvements at Theatre L’Homme Dieu.
The Ruth McDonald grant round supports health and wellness programming in the Alexandria area, especially for the health needs of people in poverty. Recipients of the Ruth McDonald grants were as followed:
- $10,000 to support the Girls 360 Group through the Village, which educates girls and promotes healthy living, positive mental health and responsible lifestyles.
- $3,500 to support the Douglas County Car Care program, which addresses the transportation barriers for those living in poverty by assisting with acquiring a vehicle or vehicle maintenance.
The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local Alexandria area. Since 1992, AACF has grown to over $4.8 million in assets and awarded over $3.9 million in grants to nonprofits. The AACF is governed by a local board of directors and is a partner of CommunityGiving, which is a collaborative of many community foundations united under a single framework to create efficiencies that maximize the impact of our donors.
