Paul Melchert retired on May 31, 2020, after an illustrious legal career spanning over 60 years. Guided by a strong sense of values, Paul’s approach to his work and relationships was rooted in integrity, setting a standard of excellence for Melchert Hubert Sjodin. He sought out talented, well-rounded attorneys who shared his dedication to serving clients, families, and the community. Through his leadership, he cultivated a culture of professionalism, competence, fairness, and generosity that continues to define the firm.
Paul’s commitment to community service is as notable as his legal career. A co-founder of the Waconia Chamber of Commerce in 1961, Paul has been a pillar of the community for decades. His involvement extends to being a long-standing and active member of the Waconia American Legion and the Waconia Lions Club. In 2004, the gazebo at City Square Park was dedicated in recognition of his lifetime of service—a testament to his generosity and lasting impact.
Passionate about preserving local history, Paul served as president of the Carver County Historical Society. As founder and president of the Waconia Heritage Association, he supported efforts to publish two books chronicling Waconia’s rich history. His philanthropic spirit and dedication to fostering a sense of community have left an indelible mark on Waconia and beyond, inspiring others to give back and make a difference.
Paul Melchert was recognized with the 2024 Award in Philanthropy from the Community Foundation for Carver County on September 18, 2024 at the annual Celebration of Philanthropy Dinner.
