White Bear Lake, Minn. – Ken Galloway (photo below) has been selected as the 2026 J. Stanley and Doris Hill Award recipient. The award honors the memory of Stan and Doris Hill for their remarkable commitment to community service. Galloway is recognized by the Greater White Bear Lake Community Foundation for his extensive volunteer service to the communities that share the shores of White Bear Lake and beyond its borders.
“I feel that strong and vibrant communities contribute very positively to the lives of all citizens. Strong communities are safer, kinder, and more economically successful,” Galloway said. “And simply put, helping others and contributing just make me feel good. All of my thoughts can be wrapped up in a feeling of gratitude for the good fortune I have been dealt in life.”
Galloway also shared the values that have guided his service: “As a Christian person, I have always felt a compassion for those who are at certain disadvantages, such as poverty, oppression, neglect, abuse, racism, etc. I feel frustrated by injustice and unfairness and feel called to do my part to ‘make a difference,’” he stated. “It’s not enough just to have faith, you have to show it by your good works. As a citizen, I’ve always felt a responsibility as a free citizen who has been so blessed, to ‘give back’ what I can to help in the community and the world.”
Galloway’s community volunteer models include his parents, and he strives to continue carrying on their values of service. When interviewed he emphasized the values of compassion, empathy and justice.
Born in 1957, Galloway grew up in North St. Paul. He graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1975 and then attended culinary school at Century College.
