About This Grant

Foundation: Sauk Centre Area Community Foundation

Brief Description

The SCACF Arts Grant Round seeks to make grants that support the arts and cultural activities in the Sauk Centre area including visual, performing, music, literary and experiential art activities.

What We Fund

  • 501(c) 3 Nonprofit Organizations
  • Schools
  • Government entities

Geographic Area: Serves the Sauk Centre School District (ISD 743) area

Funding Amount Range: $10,000 to $20,000 per project

Additional Important Notes:

  • SCACF will be deploying a spend down strategy over the next year. We intend to deploy our remaining resources via grants and close our work in the Arts space, allowing other local organizations to lead this work into the future.
  • Fiscal hosts are allowed.
  • Preference is for new, highly impactful projects.
  • Past funding is not a guarantee for future funding.

Focus Areas

  • Projects/programs that focus on program development and implementation for increased art engagement
  • Innovative or experiential art events that have community wide impact and engagement
  • Increased access to the arts of disadvantaged populations
  • Large scale art installations or art beautification projects
  • Capital asks can only be submitted for program-based equipment, not for brick-and-mortar improvements to facilities (i.e. a kiln for ceramics arts classes, sound equipment for concert/theatre programming, etc).
  • Projects/Programs that support diversity, equity and inclusion. (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy)

Favorable Consideration

  • Preference given to arts organizations physically located in Sauk Centre, MN.
  • SCACF strongly prefers applications that bridge arts engagement to populations that may not be able to access it otherwise, promotes public art for all to enjoy or exposes our community to new forms are artistic pursuit.

Typically, we do not fund:

  • Individuals

  • Religious organizations for religious purposes

  • Political organizations or political campaigns

This generally includes organizations with a 501 (c)(4) status that can advocate for causes and propositions and endorse specific candidates.

  • Event sponsorship or annual fundraising drives

  • Multi-year requests

Organizations seeking continued support beyond the initial grant year are welcome to reapply in subsequent grant cycles.

  • Endowments

  • Debt retirement

For example, grant funds should not be used to: pay off an organization’s loans, lines of credit, unpaid bills, or deficits, cover past due obligations, such as back taxes or unpaid rent, refinance existing liabilities, even if related to previously funded projects

  • Projects that have already been completed

Applications seeking reimbursement for past work, retroactive funding, or previously concluded programs and completed capital projects are typically ineligible.

  • Individual academic scholarships for post-secondary education

  • Grants solely for the purpose of travel or conferences

Specifically, we do not fund travel for staff of agencies or organizations

  • Government funding that has been reduced or eliminated

Our resources are primarily intended to catalyze innovation, support sustainable solutions, and build long-term capacity, rather than substituting for public sector obligations.

Applicants who are unsure of their project or program’s eligibility are advised to reach out to our local staff prior to applying. This helps maintain an efficient review process for all.
