What’s the project?
Melrose Fire Department (MFD) needs to replace its 1993, 75-foot ladder truck with a newer, larger used model. Replacement parts for the current truck are nearly impossible to find, making it difficult to keep this essential equipment operational. For years, the truck has served Melrose, Freeport, Sauk Centre, and Albany and the upgraded truck will continue to support fire departments throughout the area. Melrose Fire Department Relief Association must raise an estimated $200,000 to purchase the replacement truck.
Why It Matters:
As our communities grow, the demands on local fire departments grow with them.
A newer ladder truck will allow the Melrose Fire Department, along with neighboring departments, to respond more efficiently and safely at fire scenes. Thanks to the mutual aid system, this truck won’t just serve Melrose, it will be available to fire departments in portions of Stearns and Todd counties, strengthening emergency response across the entire region.
With the support of the Greater Melrose Community Foundation and its Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce a $21,500 dollar-for-dollar match for gifts made to the Greater Melrose Ladder Truck Fund.
