St. Cloud, Minn.— The Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF) announced today the opening of the Flooding in Somalia Fund. This fund was established to support humanitarian assistance and aid displaced people in Somalia due to flooding. According to a May 21 article from the Independent, “The United Nation’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the rainfall was the heaviest the country has seen in more than 30 years. It estimated more than 750,000 people have been affected by the flooding, while damage to infrastructure and cropland has also been widespread.”
Contributions to the fund will be distributed to U.S. nonprofits who work internationally and can distribute food and water to areas affected by the flooding quickly.
