Even before contributing to charitable causes financially, Jim and Linnea Anderson believed in philanthropy and gave to their community in other ways. Linnea was an active volunteer mentoring through Kinship Partner’s. Jim’s company did in-kind paving for Habitat homes and other community projects. They feel volunteer efforts are the heart of building community, and now choose to financially support charities that engage volunteers. Jim stated, “We like to support organizations that have the volunteer base that provides a spark and can be fueled by giving.”
Jim and Linnea, BHS graduates and the owners of Anderson Brothers Construction, have been married for over 50 years. Jim’s father and uncle started Anderson Brothers Construction in 1940, and after their passing, Jim returned to help his mother and sister run the company. Jim and Linnea’s committment to community and philanthropy is evident in the values of Anderson Brothers Construction. Each year, a different organization’s logo is selected to be featured on company trucks, bringing awareness to community needs. Employees are also encouraged to become involved in community endeavors.
Jim has been involved in the community as president of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce and served on numerous area non-profit boards. Linnea has been active in various cases, especially those that benefit women and children. Habitat for Humanity, Kinship Partner’s, Bridges of Hope, the Women’s Center and Camp Knutson are just a few of the charities supported by the Andersons, both financially and with their time and talents. Organizations helping families and children in need, environment preservation and economic development have been the focus of the Anderson’s generousity.
Linnea sums up their philosophy this way, ” I hope the Brainerd area never loses its sense of community, as that would be a disaster. We need to all work together!”
