Louise Muggli often bikes along the wooded trails between her southside St. Cloud home and St. Cloud State University. The simple sounds and sights fill her spirit in a way few other experiences can. She feels the same way when she strolls through Munsinger Gardens.

They are some of her favorite places — and reasons why she has made Central Minnesota home for most of her life. During the summer of 2007, she made arrangements to donate three-quarters of her estate through the Community Foundation. Through her estate, she will support local parks and trails as well as the arts, area schools, the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict and programs that support women and girls.

“I really wanted to give back to this community,” said Muggli, who grew up in Cold Spring and graduated from the College of Saint Benedict. “I have lived in a good community and wanted to share that with others.”

The decision was a long time coming. Each year, her financial planner, Kevin Kluesner, asked her to revisit her outdated will.

“For years, he encouraged me to use the Foundation for a way to give and keep track of my finances,” Muggli said.

For 18 years, she put it off — until “next year.” She worried about how complicated it would be, how long it would take and the thought of dying.

One meeting with Barb Carlson at the Central Minnesota Community Foundation changed that. She first established a donor advised fund at the Foundation to make her annual charitable giving easy and later became a part of the Foundation’s Legacy Society for her estate plans.

She appreciated the simple process and the ease of adjusting the plan in the future.

“If I want to change anything, I just have to set up a meeting with someone at the Foundation,” she said.
