In 1907, Harold Bjur was born in Lake Elizabeth Township. He grew up on the family farm in Atwater with his brothers, Joel and Walter, and his sister Helen. He attended District 79 schools through the eighth grade.

Harold operated the family farm until 1984. He wanted to be active in other areas of his life, too, so he volunteered in the local churches—Lake Elizabeth Baptist Church, Grove City Baptist Church and Atwater Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.

Though his life was quiet, Harold believed in helping others to better themselves. He wanted others to get a post-secondary education. The Harold E. Bjur Fund encourages young men and women to continue their education.

The Harold E. Bjur Scholarship is awarded to students from the First Baptist Church of Grove City and the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School. The scholarships assist students who are pursuing a program at a technical college or enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program.

Harold left a legacy for generations to come. His spirit and commitment to youth and education will live on through this scholarship fund. Harold’s generosity benefits many students and helps them to pursue their educational goals.
