David was born in Lakefield and spent all of his life in Minnesota. He married Sandra in 1965 and taught math and biology at Bird Island High School where he also was the head track coach and assistant football coach. David’s favorite aspect of teaching was spending time with students.

In 1970, David started with Gold ‘N Plump as a broiler field representative. He worked hard at his job and was named vice president of broiler operation in 1979. This was just the beginning for David. He worked his way up the ladder to group vice president of operations in 1989 and eventually was promoted to chief operating officer of Gold ‘N Plump in 1993. David passed away from cancer in 1997.

He spent his life helping others in many different ways. David was active in numerous organizations in every community he lived. Some of the organizations he worked with are Westwood Free Evangelical Church, the Midwest Poultry Consortium, Brainerd Area Techinical College and Hoeschst-Roussel. It was important for him to help the community in any way he could.

His family established the David Hodnefield Scholarship Fund. The fund encourages individuals and groups to pursue agricultural education and to support youth ministry. Both of these areas were important in David’s life and his family wanted people to carry on some of his life’s work.
