Challenge Surpasses $3 Million Raised Over Past 17 Years

St. Cloud, Minn. – The Norman C. Skalicky Foundation and the Central Minnesota Community Foundation are pleased to announce that the Charity Challenge raised a record $468,673 this holiday season to provide much-needed support to food shelves in the St. Cloud metro area.

The total includes a $100,000 match from the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation. The money raised will benefit the St. Cloud Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and the St. Joseph Community Food Shelves. With the completion of the Charity Challenge for 2017, the total dollars raised since the Charity Challenge began in 2001 surpassed $3 million donated to local food shelves.

“The support and generosity of our community is inspiring,“ CMCF Executive Director Caryl Turnow said.  “We are proud to support the Skalicky Foundation and be a part of the positive change that the Charity Challenge continues to make in our community.”

The Skalicky Foundation initiated a Community Challenge just before Thanksgiving to match every dollar donated up to $100,000. This Challenge ran through the end of the year.

“It seems that every year our Community steps up and donates to help supply these local food shelves with much-needed assistance,” said Norm Skalicky, CEO of Stearns Bank. “This time of the year can be difficult for so many, but with the Community’s help, I hope we have made things a little better.”
