Catholic Charities, Salvation Army and St. Joseph Food Shelves to Benefit

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The 21st annual Charity Challenge kicks off today! The Norman C. Skalicky Foundation in-partnership with the Central Minnesota Community Foundation will host the Charity Challenge. The Skalicky Foundation is once again offering up to a $100,000 match for every dollar donated to three area food shelves this holiday season.

Donations for the Charity Challenge need to be received by December 31, 2021. Contributions should be sent directly to any of the following eligible food shelves to the attention of “Food Shelf Charity Challenge:”

  • Catholic Charities, PO Box 2390, St. Cloud, MN 56302 or online at www.ccstcloud.org
  • St. Cloud Salvation Army, 400 U.S. Highway 10 S, St. Cloud, MN 56304 or online at centralusa.salvationarmy.org/northern/StCloud
  • St. Joseph Community Food Shelf, PO Box 384, St. Joseph, MN 56374

This tradition has become a legacy of Norman C. Skalicky, the founder and chairman of Stearns Bank. Skalicky dedicated his life to giving back to the community and encouraging others to be philanthropic.

Last year, an outstanding amount of just over $625,000 was raised thanks to our philanthropic community. Over the past two decades, the Charity Challenge has raised more than $4.9 million to support local food shelves, leaving a lasting impact within our Central Minnesota communities.

“We are grateful for the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation as it continues to offer the Charity Challenge and generous $100,000 match, to help combat hunger in our communities. The Charity Challenge is a wonderful outlet you can use to give back and help those in need this holiday season. At CMCF, we believe we are better together, let’s work as a community during this season of giving, to truly make a difference,” said Carrie Abfalter, Director of Donor Relations at the Central Minnesota Community Foundation.

The Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF) attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local community. Since 1985, CMCF has grown to over $147.6 million in assets and awarded over $134.5 million in grants to non-profits.  The CMCF is governed by a local board of directors and is a partner of CommunityGiving, which is a collaborative of community foundations united under a single framework to create efficiencies that maximize the impact of our donors.  Collectively, CommunityGiving administers over 900 funds totaling nearly $201 million.
