ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — After years of planning, fundraising, and community partnership, the Alexandria Splash Pad is officially open, as of May 21, 2026, providing a new recreational destination for families and visitors to enjoy throughout the summer.
The project, which first began taking shape in 2017, was made possible through the collective efforts of local businesses, organizations, donors, volunteers, and community leaders who shared a vision of creating an accessible, family-friendly gathering space for the Alexandria area.
The Alexandria Area Community Foundation played a key role in bringing that vision to life, helping facilitate more than $350,000 in charitable support for the project. By connecting donors with the initiative and providing philanthropic leadership throughout the fundraising process, the Foundation helped turn years of planning into a lasting community asset.
“This project demonstrates the power of local philanthropy and what can be accomplished when a community works together toward a common goal,” said AJ Koewler, AACF Executive Director. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, talents, and resources to make the splash pad a reality.”
The Alexandria Area Community Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Splash Pad Committee and all those who contributed financially, volunteered their time, advocated for the project, or otherwise supported the effort. Their commitment and generosity helped create a space where families can gather, children can play, and memories can be made for years to come.
Community leaders say the splash pad represents more than just a new amenity—it is an investment in the quality of life for current and future generations.
“As a proud member of the Alexandria community, I want to extend a thank you to the Alexandria Area Community Foundation for their incredible support of the new Splash Pad project,” said Patrick Sieve, Splash Pad Committee Member. “Their leadership in helping raise and collect the donations needed made this dream a reality. Because of their efforts and the generosity of so many in our community, families have a fun, safe, and inclusive place to gather. This project reflects our community’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone by investing in spaces that bring people together and create lasting memories. This is what community is all about.”
As the community celebrates the opening of the splash pad, the project stands as a reminder of what is possible when people come together to invest in the place they call home.
