Alexandria, Minn. – The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) announced today that the Alexandria Response Fund is shifting its granting focus to include supporting recovery of organizations as they transition back to fulfilling their core mission in serving the community. Eligible organizations include 501c(3) nonprofits, schools, and government entities that serve the residents of Douglas County.  For more information, visit www.communitygiving.org/grants.

Holly Witt, Executive Director of the Alexandria Area Community Foundation stated, “The Alexandria Response Fund was set up to serve our community in times of crisis. We are now over six months into the COVID-19 pandemic and the needs continue to grow in our community.  We believe this shift will help our nonprofit partners as they continue to serve those most in need.”

The Alexandria Response Fund (ARF) was established to collect financial support from the community to help those in need following the downtown fires last February. Over $38,500 was raised and granted to help those in need from that crisis.  Shortly after, the fund switched to support organizations because of the COVID-19 pandemic and over $101,000 has been granted from the fund for these purposes.

The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local Alexandria area. Since 1992, AACF has grown to over $6.1 million in assets and awarded over $5.4 million in grants to nonprofits.  The AACF is governed by a local board of directors and is a partner of CommunityGiving, which is a collaborative of many community foundations united under a single framework to create efficiencies that maximize the impact of our donors.  Collectively, CommunityGiving administers over 880 funds totaling more than $153 million.
