Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation

Presenting Yourself Program in the Lakes Area

In 2010, The Brainerd Lakes Area Women’s Fund spear-headed an educational endeavor to empower women in the Lakes Area called, Presenting Yourself. This annual, six part workshop series is taught by professional women from the community, offering a unique opportunity for participants to meet, interact, and learn from local pioneers who have been involved in the business world and are now willing to mentor others. Participants will learn how to create an effective cover letter and resume, techniques to successful interviewing, proper business etiquette, and networking skills. The Presenting Yourself series provided a forum for participants to see positive role models and build relationships, perhaps outside of the participant's socioeconomic class. The exposure to mentoring, networking, and internships will provide a competitive advantage in obtaining a job and becoming a stable member of a community. The relationships now established will lead to employment offers. The outcome of the culminating networking program is to provide a job, internship, or job shadowing opportunities for the women and assist them in succeeding professionally and personally.

Participants who complete the program will gain:

  1. Skills and networks to increase their ability to obtain an internship or employment
  2. Confidence and relationship with mentors
  3. The commitment to give back to other women through volunteering, sharing, knowledge and eventually becoming donors in their communities
