Twenty five years ago, a group of community leaders stepped forward with a vision to create a place that would gather the community’s assets and do good with those resources. Together, they made the Central Minnesota Community Foundation a reality.
Since then, the Foundation has received more than $115 million in gifts and awarded more than $63 million in grants.
Community members celebrated 25 years of giving and honored Founder Alex Didier as the Foundation prepares for a new community vision. The Foundation's 25th Anniversary Report shares stories about the people who shaped the local community's past and are redefining the future.
"When it’s said and done, your time, your money – all that will be gone. But if you handle things right, you will have left a mark and that’s what’s lasting," said Didier, who died last year.
Each year has provided a new opportunity to reach out. Last year, the Foundation continued to drive local philanthropy to meet rising needs. Here are some fun facts you may not know. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010, CMCF:
Received $5 million in new gifts and another $5 million in planned gifts.
Awarded $4.7 million in grants, including grants through our affiliates and MREF.
Conducted its second social capital survey in the St. Cloud-area community.
