The Theisen Family Nursing Scholarship Fund


Mission

The Theisen Family Nursing Scholarship Fund was created in 2005 for students attending the College of St. Benedict or St. Cloud State University. The purpose of the fund is to assist and encourage junior and senior post secondary students pursuing a career in nursing.


Eligibility

  • Applicant must be accepted by the Nursing Program (3rd or 4th year students) leading to a degree in registered nursing (RN).
  • Academic achievement with a 3.0 GPA and ability to succeed.
  • Volunteer community service, participation in school and college extra-curricular activities, and participation in community or church organizations.
  • Work experience-both prior and current work experience.
  • Two letters of reference addressing student's strengths and weaknesses.
  • Preference shall be given to students who are non-traditional students

 

Application:

A $1000 scholarship is being offered for third or fourth year students pursuing a four-year degree in nursing and attending the following colleges: St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Or College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph.


Applicant Responsibility

Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application by March 15th.

A complete application consists of:

  • A completed application form, including the portion completed by the financial aid office. A separate essay/statement (not to exceed one typewritten, double spaced page). Tell us why you are pursuing nursing and what are your career goals after graduation. This essay/statement is very important in the selection process.
  • A listing of applicant’s participation in community service, school extra-curricular activities and work experience for the last four years. Download Activities List.
  • A copy of your most current transcript.
  • Two letters of reference addressing the applicant's strengths and weaknesses.

Application Deadlines


Scholarships must be submitted online by midnight on March 15th.  No hard copies will be accepted.

Applying for a Scholarship


Students who apply are required to "create a new account" if they are a first time user of our applicant system.  Once they have established an account, the system will remember their log in information and will automatically be tied to any other online scholarship applications submitted through our online system.

Selection Process


Completed application forms will be reviewed and evaluated by the Scholarship Award Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee will recommend to the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation which applications to fund. The Board will then act on the Committee's recommendations.


Scholarship Awards


The scholarship awards will be made in accordance with the Central Minnesota Community Foundation scholarship agreement.  Awards are not renewable and are for undergraduate study only.
