Rural Poverty Fund Grants

The Central Minnesota Community Foundation and the Initiative Foundation are jointly offering grant funds for planning and implementation of projects or programs that address rural poverty. Grant funds may:

  • Establish or supplement existing emergency and transitional activities which directly address specific and immediate needs that rural people have due to poverty.
  • Be used to assess community needs and assets, develop action plans, or provide for project implementation in rural areas. Grants must relate to a variety of identified programs or agency needs.

Grants will be available to nonprofit groups in the 14 counties that encompass Central Minnesota. Agencies are encouraged to apply for smaller grants of $1,000-$5,000.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include 501 (c) (3) non-profits and local units of government located in the 14 counties of Central Minnesota including: Benton, Cass, Chisago, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena, and Wright.

Funding Priorities

Please note:

  • The grant funds are for planning or implementation activities (not capital).
  • The grant request must include documentation or evidence of previous planning if the request is for funding of implementation activities.
  • We can only accept one application per agency per grant round.

What We Don't Fund

The Foundation will not fund individuals, endowments, medical research, capital campaigns to which the Foundation can contribute no more than a tiny fraction of the total need, debt retirement or deficit financing, dollar-for-dollar replacement of government funding that has been reduced or eliminated, religious organizations for direct religious activities, political organizations or political campaigns, fraternal organizations, societies or orders, telephone solicitations, and national fund raising efforts.

Matching Funds:

Local cash and in-kind project support is encouraged.
