Foundation to Recognize Philanthropic Leaders
Annual Dinner Set for Sept. 12
St. Cloud, Minn. – The Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF) announced today the recipients of its 2011 Awards in Philanthropy. The recipients will be honored for their passion, leadership and generosity at the Foundation’s Annual Dinner on Sept. 12 at the Holiday Inn & Suites in St. Cloud
Marilyn and Bob Obermiller will receive the Alex Didier Award in Philanthropy for their significant contribution to the field of philanthropy in the region. The Obermillers have been generous with both their time and treasure. They have given hours of their lives to create a better community through a variety of volunteer engagements.
The Foundation will honor Fred Shermock of Shermock Financial Inc. with the Professional Award in Philanthropy for his advocacy of charitable giving in Central Minnesota. The Professional Award in Philanthropy recognizes the efforts of a professional advisor such as an attorney, accountant, financial planner, or other professional who has significantly contributed to philanthropy in the region.
John Leisen will receive the President’s Award for his commitment to this community. Leisen has been a quiet community leader for many years as the president of the former Zapp Bank, an early board member of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, and chair of the Friends of the Gardens. In these and other countless ways, John has contributed to making the community a better place to live.
Cindy Faye Johnson, senior vice president of investments at UBS Financial Services, will receive the ATHENA Award for her exemplary work as both a financial professional and a community volunteer. Since becoming the first woman financial broker in a St. Cloud office, she has excelled in her field and remained dedicated to many causes focused on the welfare of girls and women.
The ATHENA Award honors exceptional women leaders who inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives. This award is presented by the Women’s Fund and sponsored by HealthPartners Central Minnesota Clinics and Times Media.
