Individuals Recognized for Philanthropy

The Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF) will honor five local leaders for their passion, leadership and generosity with the the 2011 Awards in Philanthropy.

The recipients will be recognized at the Foundation’s Annual Dinner on Sept. 12 at the Holiday Inn & Suites in St. Cloud.

Alex Didier Award in Philanthropy - Marilyn and Bob Obermiller
The Obermillers have been generous with both their time and treasure. They have given hours of their lives to create a better community through a variety of volunteer engagements.

Professional Award in Philanthropy - Fred Shermock
Fred has been an advocate for charitable giving in Central Minnesota through his practice at Shermock Financial, Inc. He has worked with numerous nonprofits in their development efforts.


President's Award
  - John Leisen

John has been a quiet leader for many years as the president of the former Zapp Bank, an early board member of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, and chair of the Friends of the Gardens. In these and other ways, John has contributed to making the community a better place to live.


ATHENA Award - Cindy Faye Johnson
Cindy was the first woman broker in a St. Cloud office and now serves as senior vice president of investments at UBS Financial Services. Cindy’s volunteer commitments are broad and many have focused on the welfare of girls and women.
