Women on Stage Features Broadway Cast

The 2011 Women on Stage event will bring Broadway to our backyard this summer. Central Minnesota will experience New York while raising support for local programs that empower women and girls.

The annual event, known for its fun, casual themes will feature members from the touring cast of Dolly Parton’s 9-5 The Musical. The group will sing a variety of Broadway
songs from shows they have performed in.

Joseph Mahowald, an award-winning Broadway actor who plays the boss in the 9-5 musical, partnered with the Women’s Fund to bring members of the all-star cast to the College of St. Benedict on July 18 for a Broadway Revue.

“It’s an event not to be missed,” said Maryanne Mahowald, chair of Women on Stage and the Women’s Fund. “How often can you say Broadway comes to you?”

From the food and feel to the entertainment and environment, the Women on Stage committee will transform the college into a casual New York styled environment. “We’ve worked hard to make it fun for everyone,” Mahowald said. “It’s not a black tie affair, but it certainly is black tie quality.”

Proceeds from the event will support Imagination Library, a program of the United Way of Central Minnesota that was started by Dolly Parton, Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Cloud Legal Services, Central Minnesota Legal Services and Faith in Action.

The Women's Fund has raised more than $1 million since it started in 2002. In May, it awarded $33,700 to community projects focused on empowering women and girls. Learn more about the grant recipients.

“We’re fortunate to be able to bring this level of entertainment to our community,” said Barb Carlson, development director for the Community Foundation. “We’re not only going to have a good time, but we also will raise some needed funds to support women and girls who are often overlooked in our community.”
