Brainerd General Grants


The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation welcomes requests for responsive grants submitted by nonprofit, charitable organizations designated as 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service and located in the Brainerd Area.  Note:  The Foundation will review all grant requests, but prefers requests between the $3,000 minimum and $30,000 maximum.  We will consider funding capital, programs operations of agencies.

  • Religious organizations for religious purposes

  • Scholarships and scholarly or medical research

  • Government Agencies

Favorable Considerations

  • Are likely to make a clear difference in the quality of life of a substantial number of people.
  • Propose practical approaches to resolve current community problems.
  • Address diversity and positive change in a constructive manner.
  • Help nonprofit organizations manage themselves and their finances more effectively.
  • Focus on prevention.
  • Encourage cooperation and eliminate duplication of services.
  • Stimulate others to participate in problem-solving.
  • Promote volunteer involvement.
  • Promote leverage for generating additional funds.
  • Initiate projects or programs which fit the above parameters.
  • Ongoing operating expenses of existing institutions.

Application Deadline


The deadline for grant applications is August 1st of each year. Applications must be submitted online by midnight on the grant deadline date.  No hard copies will be accepted.


Grantmaking Process


  • Applicant submits application online.
  • A site visit may be made to selected applicants.
  • The Grant Advisory Committee will recommend applications for funding to the BLACF Board of Directors.
  • BLACF Board of Directors will make final funding decisions.
  • Applicants are notified of final decision within 60 days of application deadline.
