AACF General Grants

The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) seeks to leverage program dollars from other funders by providing local non profits with grants for capital projects, programs, and projects that improve the quality of life in the Alexandria Area.

Area Served

The primary geographic focus of the Alexandria Area Community Foundation is the Alexandria Area. Grant applicants must serve the residents within the Douglas County.

Focus Areas

  • Education- Grants will be made to support education and especially K-12 and after-school programs.
  • Social Services- Grants will be made to support and strengthen families, children and youth.
  • Health- Grants will be made that support health education, physical and mental health and activities that reduce abuse or violence.
  • Arts and Culture- Grants will be made to support activities that generate an appreciation of diverse cultures and that enhance and improve cultural opportunities.
  • Civic- Grants will be made to support activities that build, promote and preserve communities.

What We Don't Fund

Because of limited resources, there are restrictions on the scope of activities the Foundation is able to support.  AACF does not make grants from its Unrestricted Fund for:

  • Individuals
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Annual fundraising drives
  • Endowments
  • Projects that have already been completed
  • General operating expenses
  • Replacement of government funding

Favorable Considerations

  • Encourage more effective use of community resources; such as use of challenge grants or matching funds.
  • Promote volunteer participation and citizen involvement in community affairs.
  • Enable non-profits to implement programs to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Address opportunities, dilemmas, and common problems of changing community needs.

Application Deadlines

The deadline for grant applications is July 31st of each year.  Applications must be submitted online by midnight on the due date.  No hard copies will be accepted. Organizations may only submit one grant application per year.

Grantmaking Process

  • Applicant submits application online.
  • A site visit may be made to selected applicants.
  • The Grant Advisory Committee will recommend applications for funding to the AACF Board of Directors.
  • AACF Board of Directors will make final funding decisions.
  • Applicants are notified of final decision within 60 days of application deadline.
